17.11.2025 NAVINCLASS presented at Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships 2025 Kick-Off in Bonn
The project "Navigating Conflict in the Classroom: Teaching and Learning in Times of Societal and Political Polarisation (NAVINCLASS)" was officially introduced by Project Coordinator Stéphane Voell at the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships 2025 Kick-Off organised by the National Agency DAAD.
Around 60 project coordinators and representatives gathered at the Wissenschaftszentrum Bonn from 13–14 November 2025 to mark the launch of the new Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships. The two-day event offered a diverse programme ranging from inspiring insights into project practice to a cross-thematic project marketplace. A central focus was placed on effective project management and strategies for ensuring sustainable impact.
In this context, Stéphane Voell presented NAVINCLASS, a project addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing higher education today: teaching and learning in times of war and increasing societal polarisation. Universities are spaces where political and social conflicts often become visible and directly affect classroom dynamics. NAVINCLASS seeks to better understand how such conflicts manifest in seminar discussions and how they shape teaching and learning processes.
What makes NAVINCLASS particularly innovative is its targeted transfer of established approaches from peace and conflict studies into the higher education context. The project develops practical guidelines and training modules for academic staff, alongside workshops for students. Rather than viewing conflict solely as a disruption, NAVINCLASS promotes the idea of conflict as a learning opportunity – one that fosters critical thinking, perspective-taking and cooperative problem-solving.
By strengthening conflict competence among students, lecturers and institutions, NAVINCLASS aims to contribute to more resilient and reflective university environments across Europe.
The project runs from 2025 to 2028 and is funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships scheme.
NAVINCLASS is coordinated by Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany) and brings together a strong European partnership comprising Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj, Romania), the University of Coimbra (Portugal), Comillas Pontifical University (Madrid, Spain), the University of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and the University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
