This degree program offers you an academically recognized degree in the field of linguistic data analysis. You will learn to process, analyze, and interpret linguistic data, both in the form of audio files and in written form. In doing so, you will focus on classifying the type and content of the data from a linguistic perspective, as well as on processing and evaluating the data using automated, computer-assisted methods.
Later in your studies, you can refine your academic focus in areas such as global linguistic diversity, forensic phonetics, language history and language change, regional language research, and neurophonetics

Objectives

With its in-depth academic training, this degree program offers you the opportunity to gain practical professional experience in non-academic fields and to connect with institutions that work with language data—for example, in the areas of speech recognition, linguistic diversity, speaker and audio analysis in the forensic sector, language models in the context of artificial intelligence, as well as in the broader field of research data management.
Upon obtaining your degree, you will be able to:
• Apply insights and methods from linguistic theory and empirical research.
• Process linguistic data and metadata (e.g., text, audio, corpora, geodata) using scientific, computer-assisted methods.
• Apply approaches to language data processing (e.g., corpus construction, annotation, natural language processing (NLP), generative language models).
• Apply analytical, organizational, and communication skills in research and society.
